LOGLINE : New York, 1933. Mortimer is an irreverent and obsessive journalist with an alcohol problem but brilliant writing skills. After a stint in Niagara Falls, his editor back in the city tasks him with one final chance to redeem himself: follow a tip about a secret association between the City's fortune tellers, who he believes are all connected through a crime ring in league the sailors. Mortimer jumps on the occasion, but quickly brings too much personal baggage into the mission, and soon goes rogue while still on assignment. While gradually uncovering the crime ring, he will fall in love with its leader, Evangeline, who made her fame as JP Morgan's personal astrologer.
